Zen, a skilled Drum’n’Bass DJ/Producer from Fulham, London, began listening to hardcore at school at the tender age of 13 years old and began buying records at the age of 15. Soon after, he started saving up and got hold of his first pair of Technics along with a mixer.

From here on, he taught himself to mix, becoming confident enough to start recording his own mix tapes. He continued to spend his entire wages from his part time job on records, finding himself out of cash at the end of every week, but this was to pay off in the long run.

At the age of 16 Zen began attending Lazerdrome on a regular basis, it was here he realised his passion for the music. He managed to sneak on the decks and warm up the Lazerdrome rig, before the likes of Grooverider, Hype, Andy C, Randal and Probe.

In 1995, Zen met Lee Greenaway AKA Twisted Individual on local radio show Shadow FM. Lee was producing at home on his PC back then and inspired Zen to create his own music. While at University, in between studying Print and spending many nights under the influence, Zen decided to put his student loan money to good use and bought himself a PC. He got hold of all the hardware required and was finally in business and ready to start making tunes.

By now Lee had started Grid Recordings, and took on most of Zens early work including Illusions, Tentacle, Jazz Drive, Cyclone, Mindframe and Turnstyle (most recently re-worked by Baron) tunes that were going to shape his future productions. Zen decided to make the brave move to Leicester where he caught the ear of DJ SS, who then signed his productions on Formation & Reformed records.

Tracks such as Flying Cups, Monster Munch, T-Rex and Rhubarb and Custard, Stress Related RMX together with various releases on other imprints have earned him respect throughout the scene.

All this activity earnt Zen a nomination for Best Newcomer Producer at the Accelerated Culture Awards 2004, a sure sign of a rising star. Somewhat the celebrity these days, with nominations, appearances in Knowledge Magazine and on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra it seems that no-one can hold this man down! Now the future holds various releases on Grid, Zombie, under a mixture of aliases as well as his own signature, and remixes for the likes of Twisted Individual, Generation Dub, TOV and Hazard. His forthcoming tunes are being championed by the likes of Grooverider, SS, Mickey Finn, Shy FX, Nicky Blackmarket, Twisted Individual, Hazard & L Double to name but a few. These days Zen is a regular at nights around the country and with further releases in the pipeline and remix offers on the way in, we have been told by Zen the best is yet to come.

In 2011 Zen did a huge remix for Direct Recordings, his version of Missing You by Ravager shot to the top of the D&B charts as well as getting airplay from DJ Hype, Grooverider & was the Criss Criss ‘Ace of Clubs’ track on BBC 1Xtra
